FAQs

Furniture, Beds and Mattresses

Can you make-to-measure?
  • Yes, all of our pieces, including our organic mattresses, can be made-to-measure.
How much does a bespoke piece cost?
  • This depends on the work and materials used, but for small tweaks in height, width and depth, quotes might range from 5% on top of the standard price, or simply going up to the next standard size price (eg for bookcases).
Can you make pieces in your standard furniture ranges to my own design?
  • Yes, if you're looking for a specific configuration for a piece in a range, then please contact us with details - eg for a quadruple Plank wardrobe with double hanging spaces, internal shelves, etc, etc.

Can you make completely bespoke pieces?

  • It depends on the piece - usually we can make a unit in a similar style to our standard ranges, but to your exact requirements. For completely bespoke designs, it is still worth getting in touch, since we have a small number of highly skilled makers for specific commissions, including makers close to our Bristol base and also in London and Glasgow. These makers have made several bespoke items for customers over the years, ranging from sideboards and tables through to complete bedroom sets and even trophy cabinets.
How do I go about getting a quote for a bespoke/custom made piece?
  • The best way is to contact us with your basic requirements, following this up with a sketch of the piece with all the relevant measurements. We will then come back to you with a quote - this usually takes up to a week or so).
  • All of our beds and furniture are made from either sustainable or reclaimed wood, either certified or independently verified as being from a sustainable or reclaimed source.
  • The choice of wood varies from product to product.
Is your furniture made from FSC certified wood?
  • Some of our furniture is made from FSC certified wood, whereas other ranges use PEFC certified wood and then also wood from independently assessed sources, for example wood taken from the local Forest of Avon woodland scheme and UK sourced, reclaimed wood.
Wood mills that are used by some of the makers have FSC and/or PEFC certification - usually both.
We can send you details of the wood sources for the different ranges, if required.
Can you colour match existing pieces?
  • Depending on the item, we can sometimes provide a colour match service at an additional cost of 10%.
Do you include handles and finishing in your prices?
  • Yes, all of our prices include standard handles and finishing, but we can also supply unfinished ('In The White') pieces as well, if you would like to finish a piece yourself (usually around 10% less than a standard, finished price).
Do your beds dismantle?
  • Yes, all of our beds break down into headboard, footboard and side rails.
  • Most of our beds use a fixing system based on the well known 'Bed-Loc' arrangement.
Do your wardrobes dismantle?
  • We normally deliver wardrobes as either 1, 2 or 3 pieces, depending on the style, but can also deliver in component form (ie flat panels) to put together in situ. Please do let us know if you think access might be difficult.
What type of base do your beds have?
  • All of our wooden beds have flat, solid wood slats or sprung beech slats, both systems are spaced 6-7cm apart to give optimum support to your mattress, whilst allowing it to breathe to avoid a build up of moisture and heat.
  • Our upholstered 'Pure' divan base has a choice of springs or flat, solid wood slats..
Do your beds have centre supports (for the slats)?
  • Yes, from the double size and up, our beds will feature a centre bar, usually with a centre foot.
Can your organic and wool free/vegan mattresses be used on beds with slatted bases?
  • Yes, though we recommend that slats are spaced at a maximum of 4-5cm apart (as for any type of mattress
Do you take old mattresses and/or beds away?
Why don't you have more chairs?
  • Unfortunately, there simply aren't many chair makers left in the UK, but we're pleased to now be supplying chairs made by our oak maker, Andrena Furniture.
  • Some of our suppliers do supply other chairs that match their tables - these are bought in from abroad (usually from Belgium) and then finished in the UK. These can be ordered, if required - please enquire for details.

Bedding

Is all your bedding organic?

  • Yes, all of our bedding is certified organic, by GOTS and The Soil Association.
Is your bedding made in the UK
  • No, our bedding is supplied by Greenfibres, a small family business based in Totnes, Devon and is handmade in the Czech Republic.
The organic wool used is Bioland certified and comes from a German herd, the certified organic cotton is from Turkey.
  • Yes, this is possible - please enquire.

  • We don't have dedicated parking, but there are usually spaces opposite and outside the shop, with the first half hour free (ticket still required) and free parking all day Saturday.
Do you ever have any sales?
  • We usually have a Clearout Sale at least once a year for discontinued, overstock and slight second items, as well as an ongoing Clearance section on our website, see here.
Rather than hike our prices up temporarily to then give a discount, we prefer to offer our products at a fair and reasonable price.
Some retailers operate a 'List Price' / 'Our Price' system, which is also often misleading, with the list price being done at a substantially higher mark up than usual, giving a false impression of a saving - we'd rather give you our best price, which will be the same throughout the year.

Website

Why can't I see a main picture for an item?
  • We are constantly updating our website and occasionally are still waiting for a suitable picture to come through from the maker.
Why don't you have prices for some items?
  • Prices might not be shown if we are in the process of updating items or, in the case of our fitted ranges, a bespoke quote would be needed. If this is the case, please telephone the shop on 0117 942 87 32 for more information.

You will then be taken through to the delivery, confirmation and secure payment sections.
You can register if you like, or simply work through the system as a guest account.
Our payment system is based on paypal, but please note you can use a standard credit or debit card to pay, or still use a paypal account, if you prefer.
On the paypal payment page, there is an option at the bottom to click through and use a card, instead of the paypal system.

  • Yes, all of our prices include VAT charged at the current rate.
Our VAT registration number is 947 0831 09.
Can I pick my goods up from the shop, instead of having a delivery?
  • Yes, we can arrange for your order to be picked up from the store (or our nearby warehouse), if you prefer not to have the item(s) delivered.
Why can't I get a price for delivery generated by the website?
  • Firstly, please double check that you have entered your details correctly.
  • If you are only being offered the option to 'Pickup From Store - £0.00', then it is likely that you are outside of our usual delivery area. If this is the case, then it is usually possible to send to you using a third party courier, though this would not usually include installation. If you'd like to explore this option, please contact us.
How long does it take until my order is ready / delivered?
  • Our current expected lead time for furniture and beds is 11-16 weeks, depending on the maker, mattresses around 7 weeks, but we can sometimes get orders through more quickly. Please enquire if you're looking for a shorter lead time - we have many different makers, ranging from one person businesses to larger organisations, so lead times for items can often be quite different for the different ranges.
  • Please be aware, all of our makers have a traditional 2 week shut down over the Christmas holiday season, which will add to the standard lead time.

Do you have a cut off date for pre Xmas orders/deliveries?
  • We cannot guarantee pre Xmas delivery for any furniture orders after 1st October, but we will strive to deliver items before 25th December if we can. We have several different makers, ranging from one person businesses, to larger companies with larger workforces and everything is done in batches every 8-10 weeks or so. The lead times for mattresses and bedding are shorter than furniture, around 6-7 weeks for mattresses and bedding can usually be sent out in 5-7 days.
